The Sun is the only star in the Solar System located at the center of it. It is visible from most planets in the Solar System. The Sun formed about 4.6 billion years ago from the gravitational collapse of a region within a large molecular cloud. It is mainly formed of hydrogen, oxygen and carbon.

Being the largest object in the Solar System, the Sun's diameter is over 10 times that of Jupiter's. 

Observation[]

  • Looking directly at the Sun via the naked eye is very dangerous to your eyes and using binoculars/a telescope is even worse, however there are solar-viewing glasses and pinhole cameras for safe solar viewing.
